Although the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge #160 was established in 1925, the sport of bocce was not available to it's members until several years later; after the lodge moved from it's location on Elm Street in Danbury to it's second home, Main Street. Currently there are about 12 players who represent the lodge in many local and national tournaments. At it's current location, Vespucci Drive in Danbury, there are six outdoor courts - including one children's size - and one indoor court located in the basement for year-round enjoyment. They practice on Tuesday and Friday nights at 7:30pm and invite all to come and watch and learn this challenging game.

Now - Bocce for the young

In December of 1999, the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge #160 built the area's first childrens size bocce court. Measuring at only 7 feet by 30 feet this makes the court a prime size for the smaller, younger player. To add to the excitement, the entire constuction process was videotaped to be on the Discovery Channel network cable show "Home Matters" and was broadcast on October 9, 2000.

The story was also covered by the local press, The News-Times.

During the months of May and June, 2000, the lodge offered a children's bocce workshop (ages 6 thru 15) on Sundays to help introduce new players to the sport. For more information see the story covered by the local press, The News-Times.
